I used Table at Home to host my husband‘s birthday this past Friday. Chef Sam came along with Sous-Chef Raymond. They worked well together to deliver a wonderful experience. We were not rushed (this was important to me), and as expected, they left my kitchen clean.I’m giving a 4 star vs 5 mainly because of the 2 starters. Frankly I was disappointed with the starters but this was partly on me. I recalled my initial conversation and the initial pictures that were sent to me from the proposal and that stayed with me. Although Chef Sam made the time to discuss the menu, I was always commuting/driving and must have missed the change with the starters. Also in his defense, he emailed me the final iteration of the menu and I did not review it. However, I have had different chefs services and I have a fair understanding of what my budget allows for. Salad, entrées and desserts were superb. Chef Sam did an amazing job with these 3 servings. He used fresh vegetables and herbs and he blended the flavors very well. The food, service and communication were all exceptional. I would definitely do this again and I would highly recommend. It was so enjoyable to have a better than restaurant quality meal in the comfort of our home. We used table at home for a graduation dinner and couldn’t have been more pleased. I wanted to do something unique and special for our anniversary. A night out in the city seemed just ordinary so I happened upon Table At Home. From start to finish it was such an easy process with both the website and chef (Shawn Burnette) were quick to answer any questions I had to assuage my concerns. I felt like I had very good options from great chefs within hours of posting my request. It was hard to choose which one to pick, but in the end Chef Shawn was not only a very professional and top notch chef who made us a dinner that rivaled anything we would have had in the city he was also friendly and personable which added a great touch to the dinner. This service is remarkable and I can’t recommend it more highly. Not only was Daniel, who runs the company, helpful, informative and accessible, Chef Blaire was nothing short of OUTSTANDING! The meal prepared by Chef Jacqueline was excellent. The kitchen in our vacation rental wasn't the best, actually for a house that size it was horrible. However, despite that set back Chef Jacqueline pulled off an amazing meal. The menu was diverse enough to entertain sophisticated foodies yet tame enough that even the most timid eater enjoyed the meal. She cooked for 13 men and not a single one of us left the dinner table hungry, we were stuffed! It was just a great experience! Massimo and his wife Tara were amazing. We held a party last night that set up, executed and concluded without any glitches. The aroma that was coming from the kitchen when I arrived home was amazing. Because of her dietary restrictions I was concerned about finding a chef that would be able to accommodate yet make a great meal. Enter Chef James. He was AMAZING! Massimo was born in Italy and is a graduate of the Marco Polo Culinary Institute in Genoa, Italy. He has 30+ years experience as a chef, including stints at the Savoy Hotel in London, Louis XII in Monaco, Tre Merli bistro in NYC and Palio Restorante in Long island.

Chef Brenda has spent a large part of her 15 year cooking career working as a Private Chef on yachts, cruising numerous places around the world, including the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Our Top 5 tips for getting the best Private Chef for your next Dinner Party

1. Post your request early

The top rated chefs on Table at Home get booked out week after week, so try put your request in at least 2 weeks in advance to have your pick on our busiest times (Friday and Saturday nights). That being said, last minute 'day before' requests can often get picked up by chefs who decide to work last minute, so don’t hesitate to try your luck on a Monday morning for that Tuesday night dinner date you have planned.

2. Browse our photo galleries for inspiration

All chefs are encouraged to post lots of photos of their work. Many have amazing photo portfolios that will make your mouth water. Check out the ‘food porn’ on our Inspire me page or our Instagram feed to get some new ideas on a food style or theme for your next dinner party. Often we see customers base a Meal request around a photo of a dish that caught their attention.

3. Give chefs creative freedom on the menu

Chefs are creatives at heart. We have found that you get the best results when you give them a fairly free rein to propose a menu. So tell them you want vegetarian or have a craving for lamb, but don’t give them your grandma’s risotto recipe. That being said, don’t be afraid to ask them to suggest another desert when you like the main they have proposed but are not a fan of the creme brulee they proposed.

4. Look at other customers reviews when choosing your chef

Who better to tell you what a chef is really like than a fellow customer. When trying to pick between chefs, often the comments from other customers can help you work out who you want. In addition to feedback on the food, customers comments often tell you about who the personal style and atmosphere they create. For intimate affairs like small dinner parties, often this interpersonal dimension is just as important an ingredient as the food. Do you want a chef that likes to share their secrets and interact with guests? Or someone more in the background? There is no right or wrong, it is just about choosing what is right for you.

5. Don't wait to the last minute to confirm a chef

As you would expect, the best chefs on our platform are in high demand, and tend to book out. Once you have received 3-4 proposals from chefs, and worked out the chef you want .... don't wait too long to 'Accept' their proposal and confirm them. Until you confirm a booking with a chef, there is always a chance that they are snapped up by another customer.
